Hello and Welcome!

Hello dear friends and family!
We are thrilled to invite you to Julia Carpenter's 60th birthday celebration! We will celebrate with a Sea Ranch extravaganza over the weekend of July 10, 11 and 12 in honor of our favorite hostess-with-the-mostess, JULIE.
An itinerary for the weekend is outlined below along with links for driving directions and further information.

Winery Visit- 1 pm

Please join us for a trip to Annapolis Winery! This family-owned and operated winery is located on the ridge overlooking Sea Ranch. It's about a 20 minute drive from the northern end of Sea Ranch- if you are traveling south on Highway 1 from Gualala or the northern part of Sea Ranch, turn left onto Annapolis Road and follow this for 8 miles. (If you are traveling north on Highway 1 from the southern part of Sea Ranch or from San Francisco, turn right onto Annapolis Road.) You will see signs for the winery- turn left onto Soda Springs Road and follow for 300 feet, then drive through the gate and up the (long) driveway for the winery. There is a large parking area on the left. We will set up our picnic on the tables directly across from the parking lot, overlooking the gorgeous view.

Saturday July 11

Hike and Lunch- 11 am

There are two organized events today- first a hike on the coastal trail and brown bag lunch on Shell Beach. If you are staying on Sea Ranch property, please consult the Sea Ranch map to locate Shell Beach - there is a parking lot for Sea Ranch residents and guests where we will meet at 11.

If you are not staying on Sea Ranch property, there is a public access parking lot for Shell Beach located on Highway 1. Driving south from Gualala, look for the signs saying coastal access, Shell Beach, just after highway marker 55.24. If you are driving north on Highway 1, look for highway marker 55.14. The parking lot is on the ocean side of Highway 1- park there and take a short walk down towards the coast to meet up at the coastal trail.

We will meet up at 11 for a hike and have a (brown-bag) lunch on the beach afterwards.

Lunch will not be provided- there is a deli counter Surf Super in Gualala, or you could get takeout from Julie's favorite place for breakfast and lunch, Trink's, also located in Gualala.

Party Time! - 5 pm

The main event for the weekend is Julie's birthday party, of course! This begins at 5pm on Saturday. The party will be held at the Ohlson Ranch House. The Ohlson House is on the ocean side of highway 1, at mile marker 53.76. There is a parking lot for guests located on the left side, just next to the house.

Sunday July 12

 Brunch - 11 am

Please join us Sunday morning at 11 am for brunch at Julie and Paul's house. The address and directions for how to get there were provided in a separate email.

Other Things to Do in the Area

Mendanoma is a wonderful vacation destination- we hope that you will enjoy your time in this area! Below are a few ideas for other things to do while you are visiting.

Gualala Arts is having their 13th Annual Chamber Music Festival on July 11 and 12. For tickets, go here.

The Sea Ranch trails are open to the public- there are miles and miles of trails along the coast that are absolutely stunning. Park in one of the public access parking lots along Highway 1- don't forget to pay the parking permit- and hike to your hearts content.

The Sea Ranch also has a great golf course that is open to the public. For tee times and other information, see here.

Also on the Sea Ranch, there is a self-guided audio tour available at the Lodge. The Sea Ranch is world-renowned for architecture, take the tour and learn why! (It is not necessary to be staying on the Sea Ranch to take the tour).

If you are looking to see a little more of Mendocino County (Gualala and north), we recommend driving north to the sweet town of Point Arena. (Julie and Paul and Oona lived there for a year in the early 80's and still have several wonderful friends from that time). The lighthouse is particularly fun to visit as is the quaint main street.
